RCMTS Returns To Familiar Ground Sunday
After the first ever RCMTS sanctioned event in the state of Minnesota, the Radio Control Modified Touring Series is set to return to familiar ground this weekend.
Sunday’s noontime event in conjunction with the RC Extreme Racing club at the Sioux Falls Ramkota is the tour’s fifth event in the South Dakota facility this season.
Audie Turpitt leads the points in both the A-Modified and B-Modified divisions, but the Sioux Falls based driver is looking to rebound after a disappointing and expensive A-Modified showing at Genesis Raceway in Marshall, MN last weekend. Turpitt was best of the field in the B-Modifieds, claiming his second win in the class this season. But the A-Modifieds were a far different story. Turpitt grenaded not one, but two motors in the course of the day. The second motor failure took him out of winning contention in the main event.
Chad Schettler’s A-Modified top qualifying performance at Genesis Raceway was rewarded with his second win of the season in the class. Schettler enters this week’s racing second in A-Mod points followed by Shawn Neisteadt in third. Jared Nytroe and Damon Buus enter the Sioux Falls event locked in fourth in points.
Turpitt is enjoying a ten point edge in the B-Modified standing ahead of Neisteadt. Just one point separates the rest of the top five in the standings, with Nytroe and Schettler locked in third, just one point ahead of fifth place Jody Rosenboom. Rosenboom and Turpitt each have two wins in the class, Neisteadt has one.
RCMTS officials are also reminding drivers to check their Electronic Speed Controls. A helpful link is available here: www.roarracing.com/?page_id=737
