In recent weeks, we have been discussing a trip to Rapid City to take part in that local club’s racing event that ties into their local car show. The event is the weekend of February 17-19.
Currently, they plan on running practice Friday night and racing would start at 9am (Mountain time) on Saturday morning. On that day, classes would receive 3 rounds of qualifying. Sunday’s races will possibly include another round of qualifying (they will vote on that at the time) and the mains.
Here’s where a few points get sticky. With 8 classes already scheduled, our classes would be numbers nine and ten. To run both classes, their club leader feels we would have to make some sacrifices, such as just running our three heats on Saturday and our main on Saturday night. If we want to run our mains on Sunday, he has a concern on time and is not sure both of our classes would fit into their schedule at that point.
Entry fees for the event are $30 for the first entry, $15 for the second and $10 for the rest (if anyone would be interested in running sprint car or something else while there).
Here’s where we need input. They want a MINIMUM of 5 entries to run the class, and we must prepay for the racing. What I need to know, do you feel this is a legitimate chance at showcasing our brand of racing, while balancing entry fees, travel costs, food expenses and lodging? Keep in mind we have 2 Marshall, MN events on the schedule, and will likely have Omaha, NE on the schedule too.
