who would be interested in running a 1/10 truck/buggy (with covered shock towers), 1/14 recoil (mini touring), and the 1/14 losi mini 8ight buggy when there released. those three classes are the main ones im interesting in anyone else? at the meeting we had at ht they talked about having a 1/16 traxxas class, in my opinion i think the losi 1/14 mini 8ight's would be far more better than the traxxas series. what do you guys think?

Hey Criss I think you have been out voted . Legends sucks, and so dos blinky mode on outlaw sprint class . I vote for Ramkota . Would rather pay a few dollars more for the much better acomadations and the smoother race surface. Plus we shouldent blow off Jerrys input and time spent on correcting this matter. Damon

While my vote doesn't count much as I have never raced with you guys I would like to vote for the Ramkota. I have played there in various bands, Dj'd, and ran production for a number of events there. The staff is very supportive and accomodating. I am pretty sure they have tables available that would be included in the price of the room and the staff may even set them up for you per your instructions. At least, that is what I have observed at other events I have been a part of. They even have a bar service but that would be a totally different race! Hehehe
What is the proposed schedule for the season as I would like to run on a bigger track. I am really enjoying the Hobbytown track and wouldn't mind playing with you guys a few times! What are the proposed fees? Classes? Rules?
Dakota, If enough people showed up with their recoils that may be a fun class. Brad just told me about the mini8, gotta admit it looks kinda fun.

Like Todd, I've never raced with you guy but would like too. The Ramkota sounds good but Sundays would be a little hit and miss for me. We're out of town alot visiting family on Sundays. Thanks-Scott

It is easy to say $40 is nothing... But it adds up to nearly $500 on the season. Our "frill" last year was $100 worth of pizza. I find it funny that some who raced less than half of the events last year are chiming in... And others "voting" could not support the club last year by purchasing food... And went to outside sources for meals. What happens if we can't afford ramkota? we just sit with our cars on the shelf and thumbs up our asses the rest of the winter? final thought... Lets listen to the group... Worked out well for the track in Hartford.

Just maybe the reason why people didn't show up last year is because they didn't want to pay to race in the cold. I have no problem paying to race if the conditions are favorable and provide a fun atmosphere for ALL not just a select few. And it was just not about it being cold the racing surface was bumpy especially for the guys running oval classes at high speeds.
If the Ramkota is too expensive maybe the club needs to look at other venues, and if it means a smaller track so be it it is about having fun in the end anyway isn't it? It is my bet that if the club has a warm place, smoother track and a fun atmosphere that is attractive to ALL more people will show up.
Anyway I'm sure I'll be blasted on my OPINION for various reasons I'm just being a realist and looking at the huge picture of the issue at hand.

Then Scott, in years past, you have complained about pricing, not only for the daily fees but also for the yearly membership. How much are you willing to pay this year to make the Ramkota work?
We can rent Legends, we can rent the Ramkota, we can rent the Arena or the Metrodome... but they all cost a certain level of money, and with each level we go up in facility, it's going to take more money from EVERYONE to make it work.

So what are the actual costs per place? Last year the club averaged 39.8 racers at $10.00 per racers that is $398.00. Some weeks were better and some were less. A couple more dollars per class is not much but would add up $477.60 if the same racers showed up. If this is a club then I think we all should have a say, maybe that is why some have stayed away. Lets be fair, get together again with everyone that wants to race and talk it over. Or send a message to all that want to race and ask for opinions. I'm sure Legands will be warmer if we go there. Is the overhead door fixed, can they fix the bump in the corners? I know I haven't been in the club full time but I have raced for a long time, managed a track and have done lots of work at all the places I raced. Lets all work together and get the best place for our buck...

It's always going to be a struggle to keep everyone happy in the club without a dedicated place to race like what was out in tea. Always having to setup and tear down the track, the track probably wont ever be smooth. I my self am there to have fun and be competitive with what i have, i also have a limited schedule to race so i know my vote doesn't count. What the club should decide by the people that are running the club is what can the club afford and what can they make work. It's never going to be the best scenario but one that works to keep the club going.Look at HTU very small track but people make it work and still have fun. I think the problem last year is the wait time for your class. With so many classes and in between racing, I had to wait 45 minutes before i raced again. i think that pushed allot of people away especially ones with younger kids. Just my 2 cents. Thanks Ryan

This is just an outsiders opinion, I think everybody needs to get together and discuss this farther. I raced at legends last year and did have some fun, but I froze my ass off. If the club can get into somewhere that is heated for around the same price maybe that is what we should do. I know I wont be racing a lot this winter with a little one coming but I would be more willing to try and race if I can do so somewhere that is heated. I actually liked racing at the VFW and the moose even with the smaller tracks.

Legends sucks!!!! I vote for the Ramkota!!!! And sunday races r the best!!!!! Too many things r going on during saturday nights. More racers r gonna race on sunday than saturday late afternoons/nights. The Ramkota is better all around in every way except that it is $40 bucks more. Sounds like the majority wants to race there, and I'm for it! We need a carpet racers meeting soon at Hobbytown. Maybe on Friday nights when they r racing, as that will maybe help draw more racers also for sunday carpet races!

Of course you are all correct. But, I would like to present some important facts:
1. It is not 40 dollars, it is over $50, $53 dollars to be exact. 2. We have raced at 4 different venues in 4 years. There were many complaints at EVERY place so kudos to the club when they pick the perfect place. 3. Some people have commitments on Sundays as well or just don't like taking their whole day to race toys. 4. Actual cost to race 1 event is not just the cost of rent. 5. At some point the club will need to replace the carpet and that costs money, a lot of money as well as continual transponder repair and/or replacement. 6. Damon does not know how to type. 7. You will need to have a new meeting to decide where to race; make sure you give everyone three weeks notice. 8. Be sure people like Ben S, who have a lot of input and are a wealth of correct information, get to vote -- they show up so often and contribute greatly.
PS. I would like someone to let me know what the club decides because I look forward to showing up, racing and going home.

I'm with Chris, let me know when and where the "club" picks and I will choose if me and my 3 cars can show up 20 mins before race starts, piss and moan about the track that aparantly only effects my car and not everyone elses, and then leave right when I'm done. I am know for a fact that I can bring my 3 cars to other tracks and race on Saturdays hang out with friends have a good time during and after the races and not waste my complete Sundays race, then go home and get ready for the work week.

8. Be sure people like Ben S, who have a lot of input and are a wealth of correct information, get to vote -- they show up so often and contribute greatly. Ya... Triple Majoring in school will do that to ya. Im not a hardcore onroad racer like some people..So I dont race every weekend. So if people are worried about me coming or not.. that means they miss me!? Awwww....thax :x You ARE doing a good job being the Pres of the club though... There ever week. Lynn running the computer.. Lynn doing the food with her daugther. If we cant race anywhere do to expected income, then Legends will be good!

Wow! This topic is getting blown WAY out of proportion. I hope that everyone realizes that all I was trying to do a few week ago (by suggesting the Ramkota site) was to give the club an option of having a little nicer place to race.

As Jerry said, this issue has gotten kinda bitter between fellow racers.
If Legends has actually gotten heat in the building and if we are able to work on smoothing out the track a little more than so be it I'll race there.
I'm just saying lets not just stick to Legends just because we can have all three rolls of carpet out, yes it was nice having the bigger track, but is it needed to have a good time racing with friends and future friends? I had fun at the smaller tracks also and I actually got back into carpet racing at the Moose Lodge and had a blast.
As previously stated the club should hold a meeting to further discuss the issue and whatever the majority of the club decides should be it.
If you do not show up at the meeting or put your opinion in with Chris before hand than u have no room to complain about the location. The choice is then yours to race or not to race.
By the way Chris I do want to say thanks to you and Lynn for the hard work you guys do to keep things going!!!

I will not be able to make the meeting on Friday, I have other commitments. However, I do wish to share some of my thoughts, please keep these in mind during Friday’s meeting.
1) Was Legend’s perfect? No. Could we afford it? Barely. Sioux Falls suffers from a lack of what is known as “flat floor space” – or exactly what we need for an area to race. Because of that, open areas that are used for conventions, wedding receptions, large meetings are in high demand. That equals limited availability and high prices. Legends was a cost-effective alternative. While it was not perfect, it got the job done.
2) Is the Ramkota perfect? No. Can we afford it? (In my opinion) No. We have worked very hard as a club to keep the fees for racers as low as possible. If we choose to race at Ramkota, we first better be willing to increase what we pay to race. Perhaps we go to $15 for first car and $10 for additional cars. (Up from $12/$8) That would tack on an additional $5 for the average racer with two entrees.
3) Are you willing to pay? I’m willing to accept a $25 fee each day to race, I’ve already invested more than $1000 in cars, batteries, remotes…. What’s another $5 per day. However, does that price scare off newcomers? Also, if we don’t increase the fees, are you willing to reach in your pocket on the days we don’t have enough people to cover the rent and pull out another $10 or $20 so the club can afford to race that day?
4) The club has some extra money set aside in the bank account, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s not much. To decide to run a season paying the bills with the reserves from the account is a TERRIBLE idea. To be honest, at some point we need new carpet. That’s easily $1300 at a minimum. What if the transponders die, what if the computer system dies? We need to keep a reserve available.
5) The club has many more expenses than just rent. We use a large amount of duct tape each week, plus paper, ink, insurance and a storage container. Make sure to factor that in when deciding what we can afford.
6) Legends improvements. I think we all felt Legends get warmer as the season went on. The tin made a huge difference, this year it is insulated.
7) Saturday vs. Sunday – On this one, you’ll never make everyone happy. I prefer Saturday. It was an afternoon out, that many could turn into an evening/night with friends. Sundays, we get done racing, go home, eat and go to bed for work.
8) It’s great that everyone has an opinion, but ask yourself… “What have I done for the club?” If the answer is “I show up, pay, and race,” – then you probably need to re-examine where you stand in the club. For 4 years now, a group of us have shown up at least 2 hours before the start of the race (most times 3) to roll all the equipment in, roll out the carpet, tape it down and mark out the tracks. Then, we spend another hour afterwards tearing it down and cleaning up. We need help. (If we race Sundays, I can no longer set up and tear down). I won’t, but it would be very easy to name the people who have a lot to say on this threat who have NEVER helped in that time consuming process.
9) New people? One of the reasons I’m hearing to switch to Ramkota is that it will bring new people to the club, and in the end bring more money. I ask who? One suggestions is that the Ramkota will entice those racing the Recoils at Hobby Town to come race with us. Hobby Town will race Friday, Saturday (if we race Sunday) so I ask… would those racers really commit to three consecutive days of RC racing?
PLEASE READ THIS>>>>> I know this all comes off as anti-Ramkota, and that’s not true. What I am against is our club going belly up. If someone can give me solid ground that we can make the Ramkota work for us financially, then let’s give it a go. I’ll deal with the day and whatever it takes to make it work. The fact remains however, we’re going to need more people to step up to make this all work.
And finally, I know I get a little heated on here once in a while, but I still enjoy racing with everyone here and consider many of you good friends. Let’s get this settled, and behind us, and let’s starting burning some carpet.
