It seems like we the club have an opportunity to hold our winter carpet races at a different location this winter. Apparently there is a spot in the Ramkota exhibition hall. Just throwin this out to get some feedback-from what i've heard there are alot of positives over last years location!

The track last year was really bumpy and soft from the Astroturf or whatever it was on.It would be great to race on a harder surface, but i only raced a couple times last year so my opinion doesn't really count ha. My TC3 has been burning up the track at hobby town can't wait to get on the large track and make some high speed laps.

The Ramkota sounds like an Awesome place to have it......but when I talked to Jerry a couple weeks ago, the cost is what's holding the show up. If we moved the races back to Sunday afternoon the rent at the Ramkota was roughly $300, which isn't bad. If we stayed with the Saturday night show, then the rent was roughly $800.... I liked the Saturday night show better. Correct me Jerry if I'm wrong.

My guess would be def. $300 on Sundays.. if we do get it.

The site is at the Ramkota Exhibit hall, in the "Annex Room". It measures roughly 60' x 185" - I worked out a "special rate with the management - rent would be $ 300 if we race Sundays - they have 11 dates open from November thru March - maybe more if we'd race into April. The normal rate is something like $ 1,200.00!The Site is WARM, smoother, plenty of outlets, decent lighting, possibly tables and chairs, easy access, restrooms, and they are agreeable to letting us have a storage POD just outside the side door. We could go back to an earlier start time if we wanted to. Rent for Saturday racing would be$ 900.00 for the same space because they have more customers interested in Saturday usage and there are about half as many dates available. I spoke to Chris this morning. He is going to post a meeting date sometime during the week of August 22nd to discuss pros and cons with everyone. The only month that we couldn't race 2-3 times is January - there is only one date available that month - maybe we could schedule an Omaha trip that month to fill in?
Check this site for a meeting date the week of the 22nd and plan to attend if you feel strongly about any of this or if you have any other possible sites.

Can't believe I haven't chimed in yet. haha
I'm all for racing locally wherever we can, and can afford to race. I was a fan of last year's location (after it got warmer) but wouldn't mind a move. Changing locations for more money will require some additional committment from members.

Sounds great Jerry. Going into April sounds like a good idea too.. No offroad season to start into i guess. Brandon would start racing the middle/end of May into the 1st week into June for offroad, so it would give a month rest before switching seasons

If we had a place that was for sure going to be warm, and a little smoother track I wouldn't be surprised that more people would show up. The price difference if i remember right is not a huge jump either. I agree there are some pros and cons of both places. Con about moving to Sundays is that Hobby town races on Sundays, at least they did last year.

I spoke to Brad at Hobbytown about this a couple of days ago and he has no problem moving his race day to Saturday if we want to go back to Sunday racing. We raced on Sunday for many years and there are several people that would prefer tp gp back to it. Brad assured me that it would not be a problen with him at all.

New location sounds good, but I liked the Saturday night racing. A little more for entry fee for some better heat and a smooth track is well worth it...

Racing on Friday night will always stay the same, have had really good commitment from everyone and its been a lot of fun. And like Jerry said i will work around the club that is why we were racing on sunday this spring, more racing the better no matter the size of the track.

I'm not sure what's going on. I have spoken to Chris Schrum several times over the last 4 weeks. He told me he would post a meeting date for a night last week, but it didn't happen. I spoke to him on Friday last week and he told me he was going to put up a post, that night, for a meeting this Thursday (9/1/11) but I haven't seen it yet?? If there is a meeting this coming Thursday I will not be able to attend - I am leaving for the Black Hills and will be gone untill Wednesday (9/7/11). We need to have a meeting pretty soon and make some decisions. I have also heard that it may not be as easy to get the Legends site this winter - even more reason to look at another site - right?

Just wanted to let you know how much we appreciated racing last winter with you all! Your hospitality and willingness to help out a newbie was second to none. Josiah and I had a blast. I say all this to let you know we are moving to Nashville, TN in a couple of weeks. Reading this thread makes it all the harder to go, but it's what we need to do. We have already found a good RC shop just a few minutes from our new house and are looking forward to finding a track there too. I hope you all have a great season! We will miss racing with you.

Did anything get decided at Thursdays meeting? If winter racing will be at new location and is wheelchair friendly than I was planning/hoping to build touring car. Keep the updates coming, thanks -Scott

I spoke with Chris last Monday evening. He wants to go back to the Legends site again this winter because he said the other sites he looked at didn’t work out? I asked what was wrong with the Ramkota site that I told him about several weeks ago. He said the site looked great but he thinks the additional $40.00 rent we would need to pay per week is more than the club can afford. The other concern he had is changing back to Sunday racing but I think there are several racers that would prefer to go back to Sunday afternoon racing. The Ramkota is a nicer site that is definitely warm, has a flatter surface, easy access (handicap accessible), has tables (I think) etc., etc. To be fair, Chris did say that the owners of the Legends site had the ceiling insulated so it would be warmer than it was last year. I suggested having another meeting, to get input from a larger representation of the racers than was at the last meeting. He didn’t think that was a good idea. Since we are only about 6 weeks away from the start of the winter racing season I suggested posting information on our website so the racers know for sure where we are racing, and what classes are being run so they can start making plans for the winter season. Does anybody else have any feelings on this that they want to share (like Brian did in the post above)? Grumpy

RAMKOTA... plain and simple. Legends isnt the ideal place to race onroad carpet... The astroturf type surface is to soft imo, the front straight away slantds towards the garage door, and there is an uneven surface down the straight away also.
I just know a few people wont come back if we continue at the Legends.. which is a bummer.

Ramkota is my vote-Unless they can fix that issue of uneven racing surface...
