I like them for the bigger cars as they can handle them a little better. Since we got them I have quit trashing LH front tires, but on the flip side RH rears have now been chunking. The only thing I can say is that 99.5% of the time it is my own fault for trying to go to low and catching some air and getting into the outside boards. But tearing off my LH front suspension the 1st week makes me want to keep them for my class.
So with that said I think we should leave it up to the individual classes to either keep them or not. I have no problems putting them out for the class I run.

I would prefer to keep them. If you hit it, it is your fault.

I agree with Chad on this one. For the bigger cars such as our EDM class, you get air from the plates and then they roll, but that roll dissipates the the energy just as a sprint car wing does on a real sprint car which makes your crash look more violent, but it doesnt do much damage. This is a better senario than without the plates because when you dont have plates your front will catch on a board and turn in and stop on a dime. That is what breaks front ends. I think that the plates help with the open wheel classes. With smaller closed wheel cars I dont think they make much of a difference in fact I dont like them for my open 18th car.
I would say let each class choose if they want to run them or not. It doesnt take long to put them out or pick them up.

I noticed some people tossing or dropping the metal disk and making loud noises.. This could cut the carpet and/or dent the wood dance floor under carpet.
If I did run the class, even though I dont, I would rather chunk a tire and have the car still drivable, then take out a front left arm and anything connected to it and be done. Hit a dot=loose your momentum and get out of the "line" and most likely spin out and lose your composure, where hit a board on turns 1 and 3... break a arm.. and your wrenchin'!
Side not.. Jerry Driscoll has been talking... he wants to maybe run the EDM class with you guys.. Someone should contact him and get him going with that.

Like Brian said, the discs make your crash look spectacular, but the energy from hitting something is spread out over 2 seconds. Hitting the wall means a sudden stop, and broken, expensive parts. Yes, this is racing and things break, but if we can keep a few parts from breaking on cars, then maybe some people who may have had to choose not to race because of broken parts and prices to fix them, will be able to race more often! And we are watching Dirtoval.com for Jerry. It sure would be fun to get him into that class.

I noticed someone was.... disgruntled that the road course classes where going first? I just wanted to point out that the Oval was setup first for practice, and then the road course would have practice.. so it wouldnt of made any sense to put the oval back and have them run first last week... right?

jody i think we should start at 10 am just for you! I think Jody has the best of intentions to make it, but what are the chances that Trolly ensures he gets good and drunk Saturday night, so he doesn't make it back?

As for the discs, keep them they help keep from parts getting broken. Weather the discs stay or not it is the drivers fault if they run into the wall or the discs not the other way around. I have run into the walls plenty of times, but I didn't blame the wall for the crash, it was my own stupidity for running into it. I have raced with all boards and all discs, personally I prefer the discs, for better sight of the vehicles, less damage to vehicles, but if the boards is what the club has and wants to use, then so be it lets race.
