Scott and Mark----there was some discussion on whether or not we should continue to run foam tires/ or switch to a spec rubber tire class. Please post which you would rather run and then we can all make a decision. We have access to jaco blue compound premounted sedan tires for a cost of 22.00 for a set of 4. As far as motors-everyone agreed to keep it 17.5 in hopes of attracting more cars to the class.

Rubber make the car set up a little more forgiving? it takes alot of the twitchiness out of the car/they slide around a little more.

I prefer rubber over foam. At to setup I think it’s a little more touchy but there something’s that are easier. Like not having to cut tires and reset the car after every race assuming you don’t have a smash and run race LOL. I started on foam and flew to Florida to try rubber and won’t go back to foam for awhile. The driving style is different from foam but that just takes time to figure out what rubber can and can’t do. I don’t dislike foam but with all the clubs nationwide for the most part and larger events race rubber I really don’t want to race a class that is for lack of better words outdated. The Birds, novak (bummer it’s gone), roar and IIC don’t even offer a foam tire sedan class anymore and it’s been that way for 2 years. The indoor champs in Cleveland have a foam class but as of right now there are just 3 in it! Brandon 507-828-8697

What do you have to change for setup on the car for rubber tires iam assuming softer springs lighter shock oil etc? roll bars?

I dont run a rear antiroll bar on my T209. And i dont think ill use one on my new T3 2011. The setup is different you want the car to be more loose/flexible compared to how stiff you needed a foam car to be. I need to find a xray chart on spring rates but i use 3.0 in the front and 2.8 in the back. 550ct oil in front and 350ct in rear also i use nonadjustable shocks with 3 holes.
If anyone has any question about the rubber tire setup you can ask on here but i dont check this everyday but im trying too, or email me at brandon.skewes@skewesjewelry.com, or call me on my cell at 507-828-8697. I have 3 T2'09 i use in different classes, also my kid and dad both have t3's. Let me know if you have any questions.

Rubber Tire Prep Procedure – when you don’t have a lot of track time 1. Remove tires from bag (LOL) 2. Take CA and glue the edge of the rim to the tires. Try not to go up the side wall if possible. Top or sweeps makes a syringe applicator that attaches to your CA bottle. 3. Wait for it to dry. 4. Place tire on truer or tire spinner and take a small file and file the center mold mark off the tire. File to the point where you can still see it but can’t feel it. 5. Take a brillo pad and scrub tire till all the shinny rubber looks like a matte finish 6. Next thing is mark each tire to where you put it on the car. I.E. RR=rear right, RL= rear left, FR=front right, FL=front left. Install tire on car in correct location. 7. Then I traction compound the tires, do 5 laps , traction compound the tire, do 5 laps and keep doing this till the tires have a nice matter finish. Speed doesn’t matter for this step so I stand trackside with a dauber with my compound inside. 8. Your tire should be good to go!
Rubber Tire Prep Procedure – when you have a lot of track time The other way to do it is if you have 20 min of track time after you glue the rims you run 5 laps, traction compound tires, run 5 laps, traction compound tires and keep doing this till the tires have a nice matte finish. The speed of the car doesn’t matter when scrubbing in tire so I stand trackside with my dauber ready to go. The jack the gripper dauber works well for this. Or you could use a bingo dauber as well.
I’ll gladly show anyone who want to see how the 13th. I’ll bring my muchmore tire truer (more like a spinner than a truer) as well for people to use if needed. Just let me know
