I can’t make tonight’s meeting, but wanted to bring up a few ideas for the EDM divisions and my suggestions on the rules.
B-mods (17.5 EDM): I suggest no changes, remaining with 17.5 motor with non timing ESC (or ESC in non-timing spec mode, commonly called blinky mode). This class was fun for everyone involved and had some extremely good and close racing.
A-Mods: Last year, we voted to scale down the 10.5 EDM (A-Mod) to put the class into “blinky mode.” After much thought, I still like this idea, but since 10.5 motors are pretty much obsolete (most places now run 17.5/13.5/open) I feel we should give this class two options.
(1) 10.5 motor / Blinky Mode ESC
(2) 17.5 motor / open ESC
There are multiple benefits to this. This gives everyone with a current 10.5 motor an option to keep racing while spending nothing more because everyone in the class could “blinky” their ESC.
The 17.5 option get the class motor inline with regional and national rules. It also accomplishes what we wanted to do last year in slowing the cars down just a touch (probably 0.2 per lap). I feel this will also promote the growth of this division, making it a little more controlled and cost effective. In essence, a b-mod division racer can make the move to the top A-mod class by spending $0 (assuming they have an adjustable ESC).
In all reality, a 17.5/open ESC will probably be a bit quicker than a 10.5/blinky ESC.
