I am posting this announcement as a favor to Brad Schuler - he wasn't going to have access to a computer until very late tonight or tomorrow.
THERE WILL BE AN IMPORTANT MEETING FOR OUR CARPET RACING SEASON THIS FRIDAY (9/23/2011) AT HOBBYTOWN AT 6:30 PM!!!! Brad knows this is, once again, very short notice but he hopes that as many racers as possible can make plans to attend! With the recent resignation of Chris Schrum as our club president, and the indoor racing season just a few weeks away, there's a lot to get done and not much time to do it. Topics to be discussed at the meeting will include, but are not limited to, discussion about electing a new club president, choosing a race site for the upcoming season, discussing entry fees, what classes to run etc. I was able to talk to several of our regular racers today at Aspen Raceway Park. It seemed clear that it will be necessary for a lot of different people to take responsibility for helping with the behind-the-scene tasks necessary to put on the races this year. Please come to the meeting with a positive attitude and be willing to do your part to help this club have a successful race season. I should also mention that this meeting will be held during a "break" in the regular Friday night racing program for HTUSA. I'm sure Brad Hoff (HTUSA) will want the meeting to be as short as possible.
Please make some calls and spread the word about the meeting. See you all there!

i wont be there. Fridays dont work for me very well. I know in the past we have started our season in Nov and ended in late March. I would like to see if we could stay in that window but i know starting this in late Sept. we may have to start later and in the year and run later.

How is the club going to get all the topics we need to discuss and finalize decisions done during a short break time? I think its great that HTU allows us to hold the meetings there and Thank Brad for his contribution but I believe the club is at the point to where to get anything solved and any plans made its going to take a lengthy amount of time and that is going to inconvenience their race nite. Time and money will be wasted for those driving all the way into Sioux Falls for a 15-30minute meeting that in my eyes is only about enough time to plan and decide another meeting date Maybe another place or date would be more beneficial?

I tend to agree with you Audiue but Brad had already set up the meeting and just asked me to post it for him. If we do change the site, we should change the date too, so people who race at HTUSA will be able to attend if they want to.

After all the discussion lately (about where to hold our indoor racing season this winter), I hope I can shed a little positive light on all the controversy. This post may get a little long but bear with me, there is some good news at the end of it.
A lot of the controversy has been centered around the additional cost to race at the Ramkota. I’d like to take this opportunity to point out a misunderstanding (of mine) that has contributed to a lot of the confusion. When I asked Chris a few weeks ago what the club is currently paying to rent the Legends facility, I didn’t realize that the price he gave me included 6% sales tax. I was comparing that price to the price quoted to me by the Ramkota, and the Ramkota’s price did not include tax. Taking that into consideration, Chris is absolutely right; the difference in the two prices is $ 53.00, as Chris stated in one of his last posts. I apologize for the misunderstanding Chris!
Having cleared that up, let me again list some things that I feel are in favor of moving to the Ramkota. - Reliably warm - Should be a smoother surface (we’d still need to work on getting wrinkles out of our own carpet) - More outlets - Tables and chairs provided (each racer will need to set them up as needed) - Easy entry access for pit carts etc. - Handicap accessible - Nicer restrooms - Vending machine (for pop ,maybe candy, can’t remember for sure) - Reasonably close to a Subway Sandwich store and a convenience store - They will allow a storage pod for our carpet somewhere near the back door (same as Legends) - Flexible hours (I currently have told them 10AM – 6PM) - 11 dates available (November-March) - last year’s schedule was 12 dates o November 13,27 o December 4,11,18 o January 29 (we could possible schedule and Omaha trip to fill in this month??) o February 5,26 o March 4,11,18 Note: There are dates available in late October if we wanted to start a little earlier to get more dates included in the season. No dates are available at the other end of the season, in April.
I saved the best for last. In a meeting with my contact at the Ramkota today, I explained to her that we are a small, non-profit club, that struggles to make ends meet and told her what we are currently paying for rent (I did not say where we have been racing)and SHE AGREED TO MATCH THEIR PRICE! This will allow us to decide where to race based on the race day (Sat. vs. Sun.), what the site has to offer, and not be concerned about increased costs for rent. Please make plans to be at the meeting on Friday at HTUSA! I hope this new information will help us get all the controversy behind us, get some decisions made, and concentrate on having some fun racing with the great people that we have in our club!

Wow Jerry,
I commend you for many things, (1) admitting you made a mistake and (2) getting Ramkota to match the price.
I prefer Saturdays... but I think the price match settles this debate.
Will they require us to have insurance? If so, how much liability?

Thanks Grump! I look forward to hearing what you guys have to say. While I have never been to one of your races I hope to even though I cannot come to every event.
Reguardless of when and where you have your races it would be nice for someone from the club to have some handouts available at the HT meeting on Friday for possible new racers. There will be some people like myself that will be very interested in the club that will have some questions you wont have time to answer.
The handout would have a listing of classes, rules for each class, fees for joining, etc... It would be nice if you could provide some info for the casual racer as well. Some clubs have a membership fee, does this mean that a guy couldn't come a racer a few times? Just your basic stuff.
When you do decide on a date and time let people know. Put a clipboard out for people to sign up for a mailing list as some may not know of the existence of this site. I wouldn't had Ben not told me about it.

Just a quick response to confirm that Yes, there is a meeting tonight at Hobbytown @ 6:30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend and I hope we get a good turnout, have some good positive input and make some progress toward working out details for the winter season. The meeting was held last night - there were about10-12 of our regular racers there and some racers from Hobbytown attended as well. The HTUSA racers mostly just listened while our regular racers had input on our upcoming season. A few decisions were made but we delayed action on some items due to time constraints.
Electing a new club president was discussed and tabled for further discussion. If anyone is interested, please step forward. The possibility of a co-presidency (two people sharing the president's position) was suggested. We will be racing at the Ramkota this year. We will be racing Sundays from 12pm to 6pm (doors open at 10am) The first race will be November 13th Entry fees (and memberships) will remain the same as last year Classes will remain the same with the possible addition of an entry level class to be announced soon. Further discussion about the rules in some of the classes will be held at the next meeting when we have more time. We will be having another meeting (probably Tuesday October 3rd) - please check the website for exact place and time. That's about all I can remember that was discussed.... Thanks to all that attended and gave input on the forum. Special thanks to Brad and HTUSA for the use of their site for the meeting! Jerry

Hey guys......I thought of another thing that was discussed at the meeting last Friday night that I forgot to mention in my last post. I visited the Ramkota site on Friday morning (the day of the meeting) and took along my digital laser tape to measure the exact dimensions of the Annex room we were going to be discussing that night. It measured 180' in length but I was surprised to find out it was 48 feet wide (not 60' as I had been led to believe earlier and mentioned in one of my posts). Anyway, I made this perfectly clear at the meeting that night and we discussed it BEFORE we voted on the site, just so everyone would be aware of it. What this means is that our carpet (four 12' wide rolls) will go wall-to-wall. We discussed this quite a bit and no-one seemed to think it will be a big problem. We will loose a little usable carpet space because of the driver's stand. There will be no problem using the full length of carpet we have. When I go out to the Ramkota (to lock in our dates) on Monday I am also going to check with my contact person there to see if it may be possible (for the first race only) to get in a day early and lay out the carpet so it has a chance to "relax" and lay flat after being in storage all winter.
I'll add more posts if I remember anything else and we get more information on the location of our next meeting.
Please be thinking about possibilities for electing a new president for our club and any changes you want to see IN THE CLASSES YOU PARTICIPATE IN.
I don't know about the rest of you but I'm getting kinda pumped up about racing on carpet again. It sounds like several people are getting new cars and getting ready for some competitive racing! Hopefully we will be able to finalize some classes and rules at our next meeting on Tuesday October 4th. That will give people a little over 5 weeks to get their cars ready.
Thanks,
Jerry

We need to start listing what everyone is going to race. I will be racing the stock truck-2 wheel drive class, and the box stock mini slider and mini late model, if there are any left! I am looking to get into the 17.5 edm class, if anyone has a car that they would consider selling!!

THERE WILL BE A MEETING NEXT TUESDAY, OCTOBER 4TH, AT 7:OOPM, AT CHERRY CREEK GRILLE ON EAST 26TH STREET I spoke to Brad S. today (he's out in Seattle slacking off) - we agreed that we need to get another meeting scheduled to talk about a lot of things related to this upcoming winter carpet season. We wanted to meet at a site where we can take all the time we need (and get something to eat or drink) so I stopped today and arranged for the same space we have used previously at Cherry Creek Grille. I hope this time and place will work for everyone and that we will have a good turnout.
